Definition:

Bioethanol: product that identifies ethanol or ethyl alcohol from biomass for fuel use.

Biodiesel: combustible product consisting of methyl or ethyl esters obtained from vegetable or disused edible oils or animal fat by chemical reaction.

 

Background:

• World production of bioethanol: 22 million m3.

• World production of biodiesel: 3.6 million m3.

• Country's primary energy consumption: 34% oil, 21% hydroelectricity, 21% natural gas and other gases, 14% wood and others, 10% coal.

• Chile imports 72% of energy.

• 98% oil.

• 96% coal.

• 75% natural gas.
