Towards a Public Institutional Framework for the Development of Science in Chile

The Conference “Towards a Public Institutional Framework for the Development of Sciences in Chile” will take place on August 29th, 2011, and will count on the participation of leading experts who will discuss the challenges about science, technology and innovation in Chile.

In this opportunity, Sofìa Valenzuela, PhD, working in molecular biology, genomics and biosecurity; and Fernando Mejías, Head of Communications, will participate in this activity representing the Biotechnology Center of the University of Concepciòn.

Course will explore new genomics tools for the study of aquatic species

This initiative is organized by the Aquaculture Genomics and Biotechnology Laboratory of the Biotechnology Center, University of Concepción, Chile, in order to investigate the latest technological advances in the study of certain species of economic and ecological interest.

The damages left by the earthquake of 27/02 in the Biotechnology Center’s building are still under evaluation, but a priori stimation puts the cost in millions of chilean pesos. Still, usual tasks start to come back to normal and an optimistic attitude grows among our colleages.

Positivo balance para curso de bioinformática

“Herramientas bioinformáticas para análisis de secuenciación de última generación” fue el curso que una veintena de alumnos de postgrado realizaron entre el 11 y 14 de enero en dependencias del Centro de biotecnología y la Facultad de Ciencias Forestales.
